From Mud to Sweetness

How was everyone's weekend? We had a rather rainy and damp weekend here. Saturday morning, I had Bear's monthly appointment with his wonderful dog groomer. I had brushed out all his long thick Pekingese hair just before I took him for his beauty appointment, because I always like to take him in freshly brushed.

When I was going outside the steps were so extremely covered with ice that I dropped Bear's leash. So that I could grab the rail and not slip. I made it down safely, but being the rascal that he wanted to be, Bear ran around the house to the back. The chicken yard gate was open and the chickens were out in the yard eating. He ran after all of them chasing them around the coop and through the garden, etc.

It was really wet out, and he finally got a hold of one poor hen that he cornered up to a fence. Here he is all full of mud and twigs, pinning down the chicken. I was so mad at him! So I took him off the terrified girl, and put him in the car. He seemed so proud of himself, but I scolded him. We went on our way down the road and I wouldn't let him jump into the seat like I usually do, so he can enjoy looking out the window. I mean, he is a muddy wet mess! He was so thrilled to go to the groomers because they treat him so good and love him there. So here he is dragging me up the sidewalk on the leash to get to the door. We get inside and there is the groomer and her bather and they look mortified to see this usually well taken care of dog soaked in mud, and twigs and leaves stuck in his hair! I felt so stupid bringing him in like this! They are like, "What happened to him!!" So I tell them the story.

She thinks he is like a child trying to get my attention and show me how talented he can be. I think she may be right, and I also think he is just a stinker!!

They made him all pretty again, brushed, bathed, smelling good with his new Halloween kerchief. He was so sweet smelling and handsome! When he got home, he sat up on the ottoman all day yesterday like a little Prince in his beauty!! He is so funny, now he didn't want anything to mess up his pretty hair!!

Anyways, just another day here at the zoo! Haha!
I hope you are doing good!

Blessings,
Little Susie Home Maker

  1. Oh, dogs have their own little (BIG) personalities, don't they? At least he cornered a chicken and not a skunk--it could have been worse! Glad everything worked out in the end.

  2. Sounds like he wanted to surprise you with his new way of herding up the chickens. Little dogs really do have big personalities. You can see he's a ham in front of the camera and a cutie too!!!!

  3. My goodness, my heart skipped a beat when I saw your handsome Bear because he looks like a twin to my Sammy. Sorry to say he is no longer with us but he did antics such as Bear did and was full of energy. I enjoyed reading about the muddy incident because I can understand how unpredictable, mischievous and totally lovable that breed can be. Bear sure cleans up well!------------ Shannon

  10. That Bear is so funny! No telling how long he's been wanting to chase those hens! :-) He is much braver than Wilma, she would probably just bark and hide behind me!

  11. Your re-telling of Bear's adventure is so funny! Just picturing your beautiful dog "pinning down a chicken" made me laugh out loud. I guess if you're going to pick a time to get wet, muddy and covered with twigs, the time would be right before you go to the groomers so that you can get cleaned up quickly. Thank you for sharing this charming story! :) --Fran

  13. Bear is so adorable. Apparently, he had been waiting for his chance at the chickens. In the next to last pic it looks like he is just about to say something, and then he's basking in all of his handsomeness in the last pic. Such cute pics.

  15. Bad Bad Bear! I was freak out if my little dogs pinned one of my girls down!!!! They are sweet to them though, and sometimes they think they are chickens too, when I give out wheat bread tid-bits, everyone gathers around, dogs and all!! It's pretty cute...I told my boy dog that he's just one of the girls!!Bear is a cutie though, and I'm sure he felt much better after his bath!! Have a great day ~Deanna

  16. You are so fortunate this escapade happened on the way TO the groomers rather than after the bath! Such a cute story. Have a great day.

  18. Susie I know I probably should not laugh but I can not help the vision in my head. Oh and that poor hen she is going to be afraid of him now. What a stinker bear is. But just look at that cute little face and you are in love all over again.

  19. What a cute and funny story!! I read it all the way through, too. We have two dogs and, believe me, I know how bad they can be (even though they are the best!). One time Kasha, our border collie, (before she knew better) had the neighbor guy herded. He's not a dog person and he barked back at her (how stupid is that?). Anyway, that was years ago and she was a fine and wonderful dog with absolutely no aggression at all. She was doing her job of "herding". ha ha. She went to the Lord in April. Oh, in the meantime we adopted a Texas dog and she has her own quirks but for the most part she is a loving friend. Best wishes, Linda

  20. I agree with Donna, that cute little face is just too much! Thanks for visiting and leaving the nice comment. I also am wondering why some of these things are so darn expensive. I guess I will pass on the cookie jar since I could buy so much fabric with the money. Like I need more fabric!

  21. Guess he just needed to show his wild side now and then. You know we can't be prim and proper and mannerly all the time. With a face like that it's pretty hard to scold and be mad for very long. So glad that the chicken didn't meet it's demise. Probably had a good scare.
    Hugs,
    Jann
